Questions people ask
Honest answers to honest questions
Short, straight answers with the evidence and every verse quoted, each linked to the full case. Where Christians disagree, we say so.
Is Jesus really the only way to God?
Jesus said so Himself, and His apostles repeated it. The claim is narrow, but the invitation is open to everyone, and the resurrection is the evidence that He had the authority to make it.
What about people who never heard of Jesus?
The Bible says God has made Himself known through creation and conscience, that He judges fairly, and that He wants the message to reach everyone. Christians differ on the details; Scripture tells us to trust the Judge of all the earth.
What is apologetics?
Apologetics means giving a reasoned defence of the Christian faith. It is not apologising; the word comes from the Greek apologia, used in 1 Peter 3:15.
Is there any evidence for God?
Yes: the beginning of the universe, its fine-tuning for life, the reality of moral obligations, and above all the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Did Jesus really exist?
Yes. Roman and Jewish historians mention Him, and virtually all historians, including sceptics, accept that He lived and was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
The best explanation of the facts most historians accept, His death by crucifixion, the empty tomb, the appearances and the sudden faith of His followers and of sceptics like James and Paul, is that He rose.
Hasn't the Bible been changed over time?
Modern Bibles are translated from Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, thousands of them, some very early. Comparing them lets scholars recover the original wording with great confidence.
Isn't faith just believing without evidence?
Not in the Bible. Faith is trust grounded in reasons; the apostles pointed to what they had seen and invited people to check.
Why does God allow suffering?
The Bible does not give every reason, but it says God is good, evil is real, God entered our suffering in Jesus and He will end it. The cross shows He is not distant from it.
Don't all religions lead to God?
They teach contradictory things about God, Jesus and salvation, so they cannot all be true. Jesus claimed to be the only way, and backed the claim by rising from the dead.
Can a scientist believe in God?
Many have and many do. The founders of modern science such as Kepler, Boyle, Newton, Faraday and Maxwell believed in God, as do leading scientists today, such as Francis Collins.
What is the gospel?
The good news that Jesus, the Son of God, died for our sins, was buried and rose on the third day, and that everyone who turns to God and trusts Him is forgiven and receives eternal life.
Why the evidence matters
If Jesus rose, His offer is real
God loves you and gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish.
